William H. Hooke, Ph.D. co-author of
"Cleveland Abbe and the Birth of the National Weather Service, 1871-1891,"
is currently Senior Policy Fellow and Director of the Atmospheric Policy
Program at the American Meteorological Society. He and Edmund P. Willis,
Ph.D. presented their findings on Abbe at the 21st International Congress
of History of Science in Mexico City in July, 2001. Hooke completed
his undergraduate work in physics at Swarthmore College, and took a
doctorate in geophysical sciences at the University of Chicago. He
