Christa M. Hammerl, Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik, Vienna, Austria

I am a historian and started my scientific work at the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik -- ZAMG) in Vienna from 1981-1985 on the bibliography of the Climate of Austria and the Alpine Mountains. In 1986 I joined IMG (Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Vienna). Since 1989 responsible for research topics within the Historical Earthquake Research, I became involved in the evaluation of historical seismicity in Central Europe, the Alpine-Pannonian Region and Lower Austria. Main task was the conversion of old reports into modern parameters for seismic hazard analyses, carrying out several case studies (e.g. earthquakes of Kärnten, Austria 1348 and 1690, Kremnica, 1443, Zilina, 1858 Czech Republic). Since 1999 I am again working at the ZAMG, Department of Geophysics, responsible for projects reevaluating the seismicity of Styria / Austria, and Lower Austria and for the research of the 150 years old history of ZAMG. From 1998 I was Chairperson (together with Massimiliano Stucchi, Milan, Italy) of the Working Group, Historical Seismology‚ within the ESC (European Seismological Commission/ Subcommission A, "Seismicity").
