Wendy Abshire

My academic background is a B.S. in Meteorology from Metropolitan State College, and a M.S. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Wyoming. As a student assistant at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in the 1980's I had the privilege to be involved in several research projects including unraveling the mysteries of microbursts and wind shear, non-supercell tornadogenesis, and convection initiation. During the past 11 years I have been involved in creating multimedia distance learning materials for the continuing education of professional meteorologists through the COMET Program at UCAR. My current career focus is to increase the public's knowledge of atmospheric science to improve weather-related decision-making and to find avenues to benefit public policy decisions affecting the earth-atmosphere system. I believe that history has a lot to offer and have already observed that significant lessons, milestones, and achievements are easily lost in the sands of time. I am excited to join the ICHM and facilitate their goals related to the history of atmospheric science. -- Wendy Abshire.
